Adopt a Grandparent Program at Yorktown Manor

Not everyone in a skilled nursing facility has family and friends that are around or able to visit with them. Adopt a Grandparent is a way for residents who may not have many visitors to have a consistent friend and visitor that interacts with them each month. The minimum visit requirement for an Adopt A Grandparent participant is once per month and activities with the participant and resident will be determined by age of participant and ability level of the resident. Below are some of the parameters for the program:

  • Offered to Grades K-12
  • Visits at least once a month with designated resident
  • Activities preplanned for each visit
  • Adopt a Resident Christmas Tree special program in December
  • Community Service hours eligible for volunteer and student groups
  • Adult supervision required for students under 16 years of age
  • Families encouraged to volunteer together
  • Classrooms encouraged to adopt a group of residents and visit all together
  • Visitors that come on a weekly or bi-weekly basis will need to get a TB test done, which is provided in the facility
